Anh, born in 2006, has an Elo rating of 1,659, and defeated higher ranked rivals such as Wagner Leopold Franziskus (Elo 1,844), Hommer Jeremy (Elo 1,741) and Fuchs Florian (Elo 1,724).

He topped the tables with 9.5 points after 11 games, losing only to Roessel Gino, who claimed silver, in round three.

Two years ago Anh won the U8’s category of the tournament.

He has received support from the German Chess Federation who sent three coaches to train Anh at home.

Apart from Anh, there were two other masters of Vietnamese origin pocketing medals at this year’s event.

Alex Dac Vuong Nguyen came second in the U12 Boys with 8.5 points and Phuong Thao Vivien Nguyen was second in the U10 Girls with 9.5 points.
