After several times of amendment in nine years, the Comprehensive plan on developing Vietnamese people’s physical strength and figure in 2011-2030 is feasible now?
Criteria on the height and physical strength of Vietnamese by 2030 are our goals and we can achieve them if we try our best.
The currently average height of Vietnamese is 164 cm for men and 154 cm for women. The plan aims to raise the average height by 4 cm by 2030, or 168.5 cm for men and 157.5 cm for women.
We need at least one to two generations to improve the height.
What tasks will be implemented in the coming time?
We are going to carry out surveys and after that we will implement a pilot program in six percent of schools in the country, on people from six to 18 years old. The target is 90 percent of selected schools reach the criteria by 2030.
This pilot program will focus on improving physical strength through extra-sport activities, providing sufficient milk and nutrition to children.
There are two periods of development: From birth to five years old and pre-puberty to puberty. Our big mistake is neglecting the second period, so our people develop slowly. We will have to address this mistake by focusing on that period, which is from 11 to 13 years old for women and from 13 to 15 for men.
