Cellphones with Vietnamese brands have appeared on the market for three to four years. These brands have been warmly supported by local consumers. VietNamNet reviews the most popular domestic brands of cell phones in Vietnam.

1.Q-mobile

Since its debut in 2008, Q-Mobile has launched many models of cellphones. And later, the company built the brand Q-smart for its smartphones.

Q-mobile is Vietnam's most successful brand of cellphone. This brand held 12% of the mobile market share in Vietnam in 2010 and 20% in 2011. However, after its heyday, the market share for Q-mobile and many local brands have decreased.

The company has changed its policy to adapt to the market by launching a few Android products or smartphones priced less than VND3 million ($150). Most recently, it partnered with Microsoft to produce cheap smartphones using a Windows Phone operating system.

Q-Mobile expects to earn VND2,000 billion of revenue in 2015.

2.Mobiistar

Together with the Q-mobile, Mobiistar is another age-old Vietnamese cellphone brand, which appeared in 2008-2009.

Mobiistar has been known for Android smartphones with reasonable price and nice design.

It launched several smartphone models called Touch, Touch Lai, Touch Bean, Touch Cream from 2012 to year 2014.

3. Bluephone

This brand, owned by the CMC Group, made its debut in January 2011, with five models priced from VND890,000 to nearly VND1.4 million ($40-$70). The advantage of Bluefone is that it inherited technology of the world's leading OEMs and it has an attractive price for Vietnamese people’s income, said CMC Distribution Director Pham Hong Hai.

4. Himobile

Himobile was launched in Vietnam in April 2011, by HiPT Group, aiming at the low-price market segment.

At the time of launching of Himobile, HiPT targeted to enter the top 3 Vietnamese phone manufacturers, with four models of cellphones priced under VND2 million (P05, i06, i08 and i09).

According to data of GfK Vietnam, shared by Himobile, up to 80% of cell phones sold in 2010 were priced less than VND2 million. The launch of Himobile was suited to market conditions at that time.

5. Malata

Malata cellphones appeared on the market in March 2011.

In fact, Malata was a brand originating from China and widely sold in Vietnam before Do Thanh Company became the exclusive distributor of this product in Vietnam.

The prices of these handsets range from VND700,000 to VND2 million ($35-$100).

6. Phone for older people of Viettel

This model appeared from the end of 2011, at the prices of VND500,000 to VND1 million ($25-$50).

These handsets have a compact design but still very fashionable, and the keyboard has large fonts to help the older people easily make calls or text messages.

7. HK Phone

Hkphone was launched in September 2014.

After the transfer in early 2013, Hkphone became a brand name of Vietnam. Previously, many users knew Hkphone as a Hong Kong phone brand.

Hkphone only attracted attention when it launched a smartphone Hkphone 4S Retina which looks similar to the iPhone 4S but uses an Android OS operating system.

8. VNPT cellphone

Vivas Lotus S1ra was launched in late November 2014.

This is the first smartphone researched and manufactured by VNPT Technology, a unit under the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT).

This smart phone is sold in Vietnam for VND3.9 million (nearly $200), plus charge incentives from VinaPhone mobile network.

9. Bphone

This smart phone was released in June 2015 by BKAV, which is the leading anti-virus software producer in Vietnam.

This smartphone uses Snapdragon 801 chipset integrated, 3GB RAM, 5-inch Full HD screen, 13-megapixel rear camera and 5 front megapixels camera.

It has an aluminum frame and is protected by specialised glass on two sides.

Bphone uses a BOS operating system, which is developed based on an Android platform, which means users can still exploit the applications available on Google Play.

The price of the 16GB Bphone is VND9.99 million ($450), VND12.9 million ($600) for the 64 GB version and VND20.2 million ($1,000) for the 24K gold plated, 128 GB version.
