VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese-origin chess player Hoang Thanh Trang has competed at the European Women’s Chess Championships 2012 in Turkey and finished at 12th.





International Great Master Hoang Thanh Trang was a member of the Vietnamese national chess team from 1995 to 2005. She won the Asian championship and ranked 11th worldwide.

Trang was born in Vietnam but she settled in Hungary when she was seven. Trang has joined the Hungarian Chess Federation since 2006.

At the European Women’s Chess Championships, which closed on March 13, Trang ranked 12th out of 108 players.

Trang was not a seed of the tournament but she became a phenomenon with five wins and one draw. However, she could not maintain her outstanding performance in the last stage. She lost three games, got one draw and one win to finish at 12th. With this result, Trang satisfies standards to compete at the world championships.

Trang is now the top female chess player of Hungary, after Judith Polgar plays in the men’s chess competition system. Trang has both Hungarian and Vietnamese nationalities.
