Investor of HappyLand entertainment complex project in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on January 29 put into service Vietnamese Culture Zone to serve local residents on the occasion of Lunar New Year, after a long delay due to financial hurdles.

The 52-hectare Vietnamese Culture Zone was designed as a “Little Vietnam”, featuring typically architectural projects in the country such as One-Pillar Pagoda and Dong Xuan Market in the north; Hoi An Ancient Town and Japanese Covered Bridge in the central region; or Ben Thanh Market in Saigon and floating markets in the Mekong Delta.

Also, the investor, Phu An Infrastructure Investment and Development JSC, a subsidiary of Khang Thong Group, opened Culture-Tourism Spring Fair in the HappyLand on the same day, offering culinary delights from the three main regions of Vietnam. In addition, many folk dances, cultural and art performances will be displayed at the fair.  Notably, there will be an air balloon performance at a height of some 200 meters.

Apart from that, an art kite-flying performance conducted by local skilled craftsmen will be featured. They will instruct visitors how to make their own kites.

Covering 338 hectares along the Vam Co Dong River in the province’s Ben Luc District, the Happyland entertainment complex was expected to be the Vietnamese version of Disneyland scheduled to be operational in April 2014, with total investment exceeding US$2 billion. It is planned to become one of the biggest entertainment centers in Southeast Asia.

However, only several components of the project have reached completion to date, including the Vietnamese Culture Zone. The delay is attributed to the investor’s financial hardship.
