The patient is Mr. Singo Gose, 58, a Japanese nationality who is the chief adviser of the transport support project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam.

On November 21, Gose suddenly suffered from a severe chest pain. After being examined at a family clinic, Mr. Gose was taken to the Cardiovascular Institute with a diagnosis of thoracic aorta separation (type A).

This is the case of a serious illness, with a very high mortality rate if the patient is not quickly cured. Even in Japan, according to some studies, the mortality rate is up to 70%.

At the hospital, the Japanese patient suffered from serious chest pain though doctors put him on a morphine drip to ease the pain.

Emergency consultation with leading experts showed that this was a very severe case, which needed an urgent surgery because the risk of death increases every hour.

Dr Duong Duc Hung, head of the cardiovascular surgery unit, presided over the operation.

After 2.30 hours, the surgery took place successfully. Two hours after the surgery, the patient was awake. On December 5, he was discharged from the hospital in good health.
