VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam’s four documentaries which won prizes at The First Time Filmmakers (FTFM) competition will be broadcast on US Discovery Channel as from May 5.

They include Những chiến binh chống tắc đường (Jam Busters) by director Phan Duy Linh, Rạp chiếu phim di động của ông Long (Mr. Long’s Travelling Cinema) by Hoang Manh Cuong, Thành phố một ngàn năm tuổi (One Thousand Year-Old City) by Nguyen Manh Ha, Câu chuyện cải táng (Re-burial) by Dao Thanh Tung.

Each film has its regular slot of 30 minutes starting at 8pm on Thursday (local time) and playing back at 7am and 1pm on Friday every week. 

Vikram Channa, Vice President of content with Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific division, said each film tells an interesting story about Vietnam’s changes in the process of urbanization as well as its special values and beliefs in the eyes of Vietnamese people. Discovery channel is pleased to help Vietnam introduce these profound films to international friends, he noted. 

The First Time Filmmakers (FTFM) project started in Vietnam in 2009 after nine years of operation in the Asia-Pacific region. It was supervised by Redbridge, a Hanoian TV and film production company, who acted as an intermediary between the competition sponsors and the filmmakers.

In particular, the film Những chiến binh chống tắc đường (Jam Busters), which was made with the participation of VOV Traffic Channel’s reporters, researchers and volunteers, tells about coordinated efforts by a group of people to help ease traffic jams in Hanoi.
