On June 10, the Vietnamese peacekeeping force held a ceremony to receive the prestigious medal for the peacekeeping career, recognizing the efforts of Engineering Team No. 2 and the Working Group at the UNISFA Mission.

Colonel Nguyen Viet Hung, Commander of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at the UNISFA Mission, highlighted that despite being deployed far from home and facing numerous challenges, the team completed 184 groundworks and three major construction projects. These missions were rated highly, with many completed excellently.

The team maintained and renewed main roads, patrol routes, and airports, and implemented smart barracks projects, upgrading bases such as Highway, Rumamier, Agok, Anthony, and Diffa.

Additionally, Engineering Team No. 2 contributed significantly to improving infrastructure and living conditions for the Abyei people, leaving a positive and lasting impression.

Colonel Nguyen Viet Hung expressed his commitment to continue contributing to the mission, the Abyei community, and the peace of the region, upholding the image of Vietnam as a peace messenger.

Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, Acting Chief and Commander of the UNISFA Mission, praised Vietnam's active participation and achievements in UN peacekeeping operations, noting the country's deep understanding of peace and stability due to its historical struggles for independence.

Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, emphasized Vietnam's pride in contributing to UN peacekeeping efforts over the past 70 years.

Since joining UN peacekeeping operations in May 2014, Vietnam has deployed 122 military and police officers to various missions and the UN Headquarters, five Level 2 Field Hospitals, and two Engineer Teams.

Lieutenant General Son affirmed that these efforts demonstrate Vietnam's commitment as a responsible UN member, contributing to global peace, stability, and prosperity, including in the Abyei region.

"These efforts demonstrate that Vietnam is a responsible member of the United Nations, contributing to the collective efforts for global peace, stability, and a prosperous life for people worldwide, including those in the Abyei region," affirmed Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son.

On June 9, Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son inspected and encouraged the Vietnamese peacekeeping forces at the Highway Base, the station of the Vietnamese Engineering Team at the UNISFA Mission in the Abyei region.
