VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese-American director Derek Nguyen’s Co Hau Gai (The Housemaid) was screened at the 1st International Film Festival & Awards Macao 2016, which closed yesterday in Macau.

The horror film, which was released last September, is about the life of a young housemaid, played by Nhung Kate, who keeps a secret about the death of a rubber plantation owner living in South Viet Nam during the French colonial period.

Nguyen and his staff, including film producer Timothy Linh Bui and actress Nhung Kate, went to Macau to promote the film during the festival.

The International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM) was organised by the Macau Government Tourism Office and Macau Film & Television Productions and Culture Association.

It showcases and encourages filmmakers in Southeast Asia, and features discussions about creative filmmaking ideas, techniques and trends.

The six-day festival drew 21 entries from various countries.
