The organising board of the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars) announced on December 21 that Vietnamese movie “Nhung dua tre trong suong”, known as “Children of the Mist” in English, was included in the shortlist of the top 15 Best Documentary Feature Film category.
Accordingly, the top 15 movies were chosen from 144 documentary films from 92 countries.
This comes after action flick “578: Phat đan cua ke dien”, known as “578 Magnum” in English, was also named among the International Feature Film nominees for consideration at the 95th Oscars. However, the film was ultimately not included in the shortlist.
The official Oscar nominees are set to be unveiled on January 24, while the awards ceremony will be broadcast on March 12 from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
"Children of the Mist" was directed by Ha Le Diem and is one of the outstanding documentary features from the nation this year. The documentary was screened at film festivals in many countries, including the United States, France, Australia, Mexico, Kosovo, Singapore, and Cambodia.
The 90-minute long documentary is narrated by a 12-year-old ethnic H'Mong girl who resides in the northern town of Sa Pa.
The motion pictures discusses the clash between ancient customs and modern values in an environment where children from a traditional culture also have access to the outside world.
