The national flag of Vietnam was hoisted at a solemn ceremony in Incheon, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on September 17, marking the presence of the Vietnamese sport delegation to the 17th Asian Games (ASIAD 17).

Around 70 Vietnamese athletes, coaches and officials attended the ceremony, together with delegates from Iraq, Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Brunei who also flew their national flags at the event.

A total of 160 Vietnamese coaches and athletes have arrived in Incheon for the upcoming competitions. Rowers and fencers are joining them on September 17-18. Track-and-field athletes are also flying to the RoK on September 18 from a training course in the US.

At ASIAD 17, 199 Vietnamese athletes will compete in 21 out of 26 sports, and they expect to win at least two gold medals.

Lam Quang Thanh, the head of the Vietnamese sport delegation to ASIAD 17, said Vietnamese hopeful sports are athletics, swimming, gymnastics, weight-lifting, and shooting.

About 100 officials, coaches and athletes will represent the Vietnamese sport delegation at the opening ceremony of ASIAD 17 scheduled for 19.00 on September 19. Swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc will hold the Vietnamese flag at the event.
