VietNamNet Bridge – After his first show in Hanoi on July 2011, with singer Tung Duong, world-renowned Vietnamese French Jazz artist Nguyen Le will return to the Hanoi Opera House on December 25.

This time the Jazz master will perform with Vietnamese singers Tung Duong and My Linh.

Born to Vietnamese parents in France in 1959, Nguyen Le is a versatile artist who can plays various instruments and different kinds of music such as rock and funk.

Le however is best known internationally as an outstanding jazz player who mixes classical American music with traditional music of other cultures such as Vietnam.

Le is famous for composing and playing various musical instruments such as guitar, drum, dan tranh (16-chord zither) and dan bau (monochord).

From 1987-1989 he was one of the guitarists of the French jazz orchestra. He has worked with many famous artists such as Didier Lockwood, Carla Bley, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gil Evans and Quincy Jones. He founded Ultramarine in 1983 and released a number of successful CDs.

Le’s second album “Dé” with his band Ultramarine was chosen as the best world music CD of 1989 by the French Liberation newspaper.

In 1996, he released ‘Tales from Vietnam’, in which Le combines jazz with Vietnamese folk music. The CD is globally acknowledged as a masterpiece and won numerous awards such as Diapason d’Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, Choc de I’année Jazzman and was runner up at Jazzthing 96.

In July 2011, Nguyen Le performed with Tung Duong in the "Que nha" show in Hanoi.
