Vietnamese German designer Nguyen Thuy Duong is one of the six nominees for the Y.E.S. Awards honoring Asian emerging designers who are committed to social and environmental responsibility without compromising their design principles.

Thuy Duong was born in 1986 in Hanoi and moved to Germany in 1990. She is founder and designer of the womenswear brand THU THU.

Duong completed her studies at the ESMOD International Fashion SCHOOL in BERLIN and did casual work at the music channel MTV. She put together a collection during a trip to Vietnam with the intention of making some job applications.The fabrics are sourced from the Sapa region in North Vietnam and are dyed using natural colours by women in the H’Mong ethnic group.

She was appointed as one of the “100 Women of Tomorrow” by Bild am Sonntag, the largest-selling German national Sunday newspaper published in Berlin in 2011.

The award will honor 6 outstanding designers from across the region, whose are shortlisted based on their creativity, ethical approach, sustainable production processes, and their potential for commercial growth.

The Y.E.S. Awards will be hosted by the leading online lifestyle store YOOX.com from November 6-8.
