Back to the world championships after winning a silver medal last year, the Vietnam gymnastics team unexpectedly won two gold medals, making the unprecedented feats.

The World Gymnastics Championships 2012 ended on the evening of November 24 (local time). The Vietnamese team attended the tournament with the most powerful components, including the SEA Games champions. The hope was laid on the brightest pair of players, named Ha Thanh and Pham Phuoc Hung.

In the women's jump event, Phan Thi Ha Thanh completed the jump with 13.963 points and ranked first. The silver medal belonged to Barbara Achondo while the bronze medal went to Makarena Pinto. Both are athletes of Chile.

In the men’s jump event, Nguyen Ha Thanh overcame very strong rivals to win the second gold medal for Vietnam, with a score of 15.875 points. Poland’s Marek Lyszczars ranked second with 15.450 points. Austrian athlete Michael Fussenegger came third with 15.425 points.

After the gold medal, Nguyen Ha Thanh also won a silver medal in the men’s dual beam event, with 15.275 points, only 175 points less than the gold medal winner, Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine. Another player of Vietnam, Pham Phuoc Hung, failed in this event.

In mid-November, at the Asian Championships in China, the two gymnasts named Ha Thanh won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
