VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese actress Ngo Thanh Van was granted the Best Actress at the sixth Vietnamese International Film Festival (ViFF) which wrapped up recently at the University of California in the US.

A scene of the Oscar-nominated movie War Witch by Vietnamese-Canadian director Kim Nguyen. The feature also was granted the Best Picture at the Vietnamese International Film Festival in the US. 

The model-turn-to-actress won the award for her role in the film Ngoi Nha Trong Hem (House in the Alley) by the Vietnamese-American director Le Anh Kiet. The film details the story of a young woman, played by Van, who suffers from psychological problems caused by a miscarriage.

The Best Actor was given to comedy actor Thai Hoa, who stars in the film Lay Chong Nguoi Ta (In the Name of Love) by director Luu Huynh.

The Award for Best Picture was given to the War Witch by Vietnamese-Canadian director Kim Nguyen. The film was also among 2013 Oscar nominees of the Best Foreign Language Film.

Vietnamese cinematographer Nguyen K'Linh was awarded the Best Director of Photography for his work on Thien Menh Anh Hung (Blood Letter) by Vietnamese-American Victor Vu.

The Best Short Film was given to Picture Perfect by director Winston Titus Tao.

The ViFF also granted the Inspiration Award to Vietnamese-French director Tran Anh Hung for his great contribution to Vietnamese cinema over many years. Hung is the director of the drama film Norwegian.
