A delegation of the Party Central Committee led by Truong Thi Mai, member of the Political Bureau, permanent member of the Party’s Secretariat and head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, paid their respects to the Deputy PM.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former State Presidents Tran Duc Luong, Nguyen Minh Triet, and Truong Tan Sang; former chairpersons of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Sinh Hung and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; and former Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan sent wreaths to the funeral.

State President Vo Van Thuong extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, saying Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh is a cadre who dares to think, dares to do, and has made contributions to the common cause of the Party, the nation and the development of Hai Phong City in particular.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, also offered an incense and paid their tributes to Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh.

The funeral also saw the presence of representatives from the Central Military Commission, the Central Public Security Party Committee, the Party Central Committee Office, the State President Office, the Government Office, ministries, central agencies, localities, and international organisations.

Deputy PM Thanh was born in 1962 hailing from Tan Lien commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city.

Before being appointed as the Deputy PM in April 2021, he served as Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, then Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee, and Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Council.

He was also a member of the Party Central Committee in the 12th and 13th tenures, and a deputy to the 12th National Assembly.

The service to pay respect to Deputy PM Thanh will last from 9am on August 24 to 7am on August 26 in Hong Bang district, Hai Phong city. The memorial ceremony will take place at 7am on August 26.

The burial service will be held later the same day at a cemetery in his homeland in Tan Lien commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city.

A State-level funeral service is held at the Convention Centre of Hai Phong city in commemoration of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh who passed away on August 22 at the age of 61.
