Nguyen Thi Mai Lan defeated Indonesia's Putri Endah Kaeksi to grab the first gold medal. Several minutes later, Nguyen Nhat Thanh, Vo Thi Hang and Nguyen Thanh Chung also beat Indonesian rivals Abdul Rahman, Nadia Haq Umami and Bernardino Rezky to claim victory.

Two more gold medals went to Nguyen Thi Them and Nguyen Van Phuc.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan reached the final of her event, but was defeated by Indonesia's Marlina.

In the gymnastics, Dinh Phuong Thanh performed outstandingly to win four gold medals in the men's horizontal bars, parallel bars, vault and freestyle, while Le Thanh Tung won another gold medal on the men's rings.

Yesterday, swimmer Ho Nhat Song Vy added another silver medal to Viet Nam's medal tally.

Viet Nam currently top the medals table with 47 gold medals.

Malaysia are in second with 23 golds, followed by Thailand with 19 gold medals.
