VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese mathematician Professor Hoang Tuy has been named as the first ever recipient of the Constantin Caratheodory Prize for his pioneering work and fundamental contributions to global optimisation.

The prize, established by the International Society of Global Optimisation in 2011, will be awarded bi-annually to an individual or a group for fundamental contributions to theory, algorithms and applications of global optimisation.
Born in 1927, Tuy was director of the Institute of Mathematics, and is seen as a leader in the field of global optimisation. He has also been conferred with honourable doctorates from Sweden's University of Linkuping and France's University of Rouen.
