VietNamNet Bridge – The Head of the Vietnamese mission to the United Nations (UN), Le Hoai Trung, has been elected Vice President of the High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation, a subcommittee of the UN General Assembly.

Mr Trung chairs the 17th session of the committee being held from May 22-25.

Addressing the event, Vietnam’s Counsellor to the UN Ninh Thi Binh, affirmed that the Vietnamese government and people attach great importance to this form of cooperation and are willing to share their experience with global partners.

Ms Binh pledged that Vietnam will join developing countries in seeking effective cooperation mechanisms at international, regional, subregional, and national levels to meet development goals on the basis of solidarity, equality, and mutual respect.

She expressed Vietnam’s keen interest in developing South-South cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health care, education, information technology, infrastructure and trade.

The counselor called on development partners to fulfil their commitments to opening markets and removing trade barriers.
