The final match saw the Vietnamese players get off to a good start as they defeated the hosts Thailand 3-0, before then racing ahead into a 6-1 lead.
However, their Thai opponents quickly came back to level the score at 6-6 a few minutes later.
Vietnam dominated the game in the second set with a score of 11-8, although Thailand were able to reverse the situation to get the score to 12-11 in favour of the hosts.
Through great determination, the Vietnamese players managed to sneak ahead and finish with a score of 13-12 in the final minutes to bring home a gold medal.
This comes after they trounced their French rivals 13-10 in the semi-final round to win a ticket to the finals.
Elsewhere, local player Thach Thi Anh Lan bagged a silver medal in the individual technical event of the women’s competition after losing to a competitor from Myanmar in the final match.
