Truc defeated Russian rival Galina Popova 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the women’s 48kg category.

The Vietnamese boxer worked her deep kicks well to land a few good shots to the face in spite of a barrage of swift punches from Popova. Both women went to the edge in the third round and were on the canvas when the final bell went, with Truc taking the game on points.

Truc is the fifth Vietnamese to enter the last-four round at the world event.

In today’s action, Tran Le Duy Nhat will compete against Jaffar al-Qashaami of the host nation in the men’s 60kg pool.

Vo Van Dai will fight Roben Josue Cruz Aleman from Mexico and Le Hoang Duc will face Nurbolatkzha Omar of Kazakhstan in the men’s 48kg class.

All three games are semi-finals.
