After more than 10 hours of travel, the Vietnam national football team arrived at Basra International Airport, ready for their away match against Iraq.
The team reached Basra city (Iraq) on the afternoon of June 8, after 12 hours of travel and transit, preparing for the final round of the 2nd qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team left Hanoi at 3:00 a.m., flying to Doha (Qatar) before connecting to Basra. They landed safely at the airport of the host country, ready for the important match ahead.
Upon arrival, Van Truong and his teammates were quickly guided through immigration by a representative of the host country. The players took the opportunity to buy phone SIM cards to contact their relatives.
The Vietnam team is staying at the 5-star Grand Millennium Al Seef Basra hotel, arranged by the hosts. The organizing committee has provided a training ground right next to the Basra International Stadium, about 20 km from the hotel, which is approximately a 30-minute bus ride away.
Security forces are closely monitoring and protecting the members of the Vietnamese team.
The match between Vietnam and Iraq is scheduled to take place at 9:00 p.m. on June 11 local time (1:00 a.m. on June 12 Vietnam time). The Iraq Football Federation (IFA) is providing updates on the Vietnamese team.
