At a meeting of the Government on February 3 to discuss plans after the Tet holiday, PM Chinh said the international tourism segment should be fully reopened after eligible residents get their third Covid vaccine shots and reasonable regulations on immigration are worked out.

He added that the country must continue enhancing the control over the pandemic, assigning the Ministry of Health to boost the spring Covid vaccination campaign.

The reopening of socioeconomic activities will be safe when the administering of the third shots is completed.

At the meeting, the prime minister also ordered the reopening of schools at all levels nationwide between February 7 and 14 as proposed by Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son. Schools must be reopened in a safe, scientific and effective manner to set students’ and their parents’ mind at rest.

To date, all universities and colleges have come up with plans to allow their students to attend in-person classes. All cities and provinces have asked students of secondary and high schools to return to schools from February 7-14.

As for primary schools and kindergartens, 60 localities have worked out plans to reopen in-person classes. Hanoi, Binh Duong and Dong Nai have also formulated similar plans but are consulting with parents to decide specific dates to reopen schools.

PM Chinh also ordered the relevant agencies to continue repatriating Vietnamese people overseas on commercial flights.

Earlier, he asked the Ministry of Transport to quickly license foreign airlines to transport Vietnamese passengers home.

The ministry has later assigned the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to coordinate with relevant ministries, agencies and localities to do the job.

The Government leader said regulations must be applied consistently and strictly nationwide and localities must not issue regulations that go against the common ones.

The country had reached the target of organizing the safe Tet holiday. The country has deployed Resolution 128 on safely and flexibly adapting to and effectively controlling Covid-19. The numbers of new Covid cases, cases getting worse and deaths have fallen over the previous week.
