VietNamNet Bridge – The UNESCO Executive Board will send the file of Nguyen Du (1765-1820), a great Vietnamese poet renowned for his literary masterpieces ‘Truyen Kieu’ (Tale of Kieu), to the UNESCO’s Great Council for his recognition as 'Man of Culture of the World'.

Selected out of 159 other files of 55 countries around the world, the Nguyen Du’s file is highly appreciated by the UNESCO Executive Board and he is among the 93 personalities to be honoured this time.

The UNESCO Great Council is expected to meet in Paris in November 2013 to officially grant him the title.

A series of activities to honour the poet and celebrate the recognition will also be held in Vietnam and other UNESCO member countries in 2014 and 2015.
