On the first day of the summit, State President Truong Tan Sang delivered a speech which highlighted major challenges threatening peace, security and sustainable development, especially the increase of poverty, diseases, social injustice, resource exhaustion, environment recession, confliction, crisis, violence and insecurity.
Within the framework of the summit, State President Truong Tan Sang attended and addressed the meetings on gender equality, poverty elimination, rural development and keeping peace.
On the sidelines of the summit, State President Truong Tan Sang had bilateral meetings with presidents and prime ministers of other nations. During their meetings, the leaders discussed methods to strengthen bilateral relations and shared their points of view about international mutual issues.
On the occasion, State President Truong Tan Sang met with the Vietnamese - US business circle, attended the Policy Dialogue on Vietnam-US ties in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations at the Asia Society’s headquarters, and gave an interview to the Associated Press.
