VietNamNet Bridge – The Russian press has widely covered the meeting between Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang and Russian President Medvedev on the sidelines of the 19th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC).

The two sides expressed delight at strong developments in the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia and highlighted the role of each nation in the process of cooperation in the region.

The Itar-tass news agency and Russian Television emphasized that the Vietnam-Russia strategic partnership has continued to grow and flourish in hi-tech cooperation, especially in building the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam and other projects like a joint venture between Russian mobile group Vimpelcom and Vietnamese state-owned Global Telecommunications Corporation (GTEL-Mobile) aside from other areas such as oil and gas, science and technology, education and culture.

The Russian International News Agency (RIA Novosti) focused on bilateral cooperation in the field of energy in recent years. In December 2009, Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation (Rosatom) and the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) signed a memorandum of understanding on the building of the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam. In October 2010, the two sides signed an inter-governmental agreement on building a factory in Vietnam. It said in the first seven months of this year, two-way trade already reached nearly US$1.5 billion, up 37.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
