Vietnam’s leading shooters including Hoang Xuan Vinh, Ha Minh Thanh, Le Thi Hoang Ngoc, Nguyen Hoang Phuong and Tran Quoc Cuong, will represent the country in the 2015 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Fort Benning, Georgia, USA from May 12 to 19.
Hoang Xuan Vinh (right) took the men’s 50m pistol bronze medal in Changwon World Cup but failed in his favoured 10m air pistol event.
The week-long event is the second rifle and pistol competition organised by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) in 2015, following the first one held in Changwon, Republic of Korea last month.
Top marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh grabbed the sole medal for Vietnam from Changwon by taking bronze in the men’s 50m pistol event; however, he was not successful in his favoured 10m air pistol finishing in fifth position with 138 points.
Vinh is seeking to win his third World Cup gold medal after claiming two golds at the 2013 Changwon and 2014 Fort Benning World Cups in the 10m air pistol category, which he will be also joining in Fort Benning this year.
The annual event will provide a good opportunity for Vietnamese shooters to accumulate points in the world rankings, aiming to secure a spot in the 2016 Olympic Games. It also functions as an important rehearsal for the national shooting team ahead of the 28th SEA Games in Singapore next month, where they have aimed to win at least four gold medals.
