Vietnamese peacekeeping forces in Africa celebrated the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army by treating international friends to traditional Vietnamese cuisine.

On December 22, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 (BVDC 2.6), part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), organized a series of activities honoring the proud legacy of the Vietnam People’s Army.

The entire staff of BVDC 2.6 transformed their facility’s courtyard with flags, flowers, banners, and decorations rich in Vietnamese identity.

The newly revamped area reflected the pride and responsibility of Vietnamese soldiers serving far from home.

The meticulous preparation impressed international friends and base commanders, who commended the unit’s professionalism, creativity, and dedication.

The commemoration began in the afternoon with a solemn flag-raising ceremony.

Attendees listened to a congratulatory letter from Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department.

The letter expressed pride and encouraged the soldiers to continue their role as ambassadors of Vietnamese peace and culture on the global stage.

International commanders and representatives stationed at the base also shared meaningful congratulations with BVDC 2.6.

Brigadier General William Ryarasa, Unity Sector Commander, remarked, "You represent not only a professional army but also the spirit of a peace-loving, resilient, and responsible nation. It is an honor to share in this celebration."

Following the ceremony, BVDC 2.6 hosted an intimate dinner party for international friends and units at the base.

Traditional dishes such as pho, spring rolls, banh chung, and sweet soup were meticulously prepared, offering guests a rich taste of Vietnamese culture.

The event provided a platform for cultural exchange and strengthened connections between the Vietnamese soldiers and their international colleagues.

Guests expressed admiration for Vietnamese cuisine and culture, praising the warmth and enthusiasm of the peacekeepers.

Beyond the celebration: Contributions to the local community

Leading up to the anniversary, BVDC 2.6 donated essential medical supplies, including masks, hand sanitizers, gloves, and meaningful gifts for pediatric patients at Bentiu Hospital.

With their dedication, humanity, and tireless efforts, Vietnamese Blue Berets continue to excel in international outreach, affirming their role as military doctors on peacekeeping missions.

Their contributions further enhance the image of Vietnam as a peaceful, responsible, and compassionate nation in the eyes of the global community.

Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 comprises 63 members and began its mission in South Sudan in September.

UNMISS was established in 2011 under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1996, tasked with ensuring peace, fostering political stability, and supporting economic development in South Sudan while mitigating conflict and protecting civilians.
