Tran Thi Viet Huong, marketing manager of Vietravel, said the number of local tourists buying overseas tours at Vietravel last year rose by 145% from a year earlier, while domestic travellers increased 132%. Notably, the number of individual tourists buying foreign tours was about 20% higher than the number of individual travelers booking inbound tours.

"If previously Vietnamese people often traveled abroad because of curiosity, to see how different foreign countries, that trend has changed. People who travel abroad are more and more professional and they travel abroad more often," Huong said.

Other travel companies also reported a growth rate of 15-25% on average for the number of domestic travelers buying foreign tours.

The conditions for traveling abroad in recent years became easier For example, many countries eased visa policiesfor Vietnamese tourists and the tour prices are more reasonable. Furthermore, some countries have strongly promoted their image in Vietnam to attract Vietnamese travelers.
