Pham Le Phuong, a student from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, has won the first prize in her age group, for 11-13 year-old contestants, at the seventh Mozart International Piano Competition held in Thailand on July 22-25.

Phuong, 12 years old, was among 10 contestants who made it to the semi final round of the contest, which was held at Yamaha Ratchadapisek Music School, Bangkok.

She won the admiration of the judges and walked away with the highest prize thanks to her superb performance of ‘Mozart concerto No 23 in A major’ in the final round.

Previously, Pham Le Phuong had come second at the 2015 contest. She has also won a lot of prestigious prizes including second prize at the third Hanoi International Piano Contest in 2015 and third prize at the ASEAN-China Youth Piano Competition in Nanning, China, in the same year.

The seventh Mozart International Piano Competition attracted participants from China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and the host Thailand, who competed in four different age categories from 7-9, 10-12, 13-17 and 18-24 years old.

The competition, hosted by the D&M Music Studio, aims to provide a platform for young musicians of both Thai and other nationalities to showcase their ability and develop their potential musical talents.
