Vietnamese student Nguyen Le Minh Phu won a gold medal at the U7 blitz event at World Schools Chess Championships 2015 which took place in Thailand from May 6-14.

Phu also ranked fourth at standard event, becoming the most successful player of the Vietnamese team.

In addition, Vietnamese player Cao Xuan An was listed in the top 10 of U13 standard event.

With these achievements, the Vietnamese team ranked 12th in the competition.

China crowned the first place with 5 golds, 5 silvers, and 4 bronzes. The second and third places went to Azerbaijan (4 golds) and the Philippines (3 golds, 6 silvers, and 1 bronzes), respectively.

This year’s tournament attracted 500 students from 35 countries over the world, competing at three events including Standard, Blitz, and Rapid.
