Vietnam’s only swimming representative Nguyen Thi Anh Vien had to bid farewell to the London Olympic on August 1 after failing the qualifying round of the women’s 200m backstroke.

Vien came first out of five swimmers in the first heat of her event with a time of 2:13.35. However, with this result, she only ranked 26th out of 39 athletes, and it was not enough to help her move to the next ground.

US famous Franklin Missy won the category at 2:7.54, followed by her countrywoman Beisel Elizabeth with a result of 2:7.82.

Vien, who is the country’s youngest athlete in this year’s Olympics, also failed to move on in the women’s 400m medley.

In the coming days, six other Vietnamese representatives will vie at the competition, including Le Huynh Chau and Chu Hoang Dieu Linh (taekwondo), Nguyen Thi Lua (wrestling), Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc and Duong Thi Viet Anh (track and field), and Hoang Xuan Vinh (shooting).
