Le Huynh Chau, red, to attend Olympics 2012.
In the first day, Duong Thanh Tam (men’s U68kg) was defeated in the second round. The good news came in the second day, when two of the three remaining artists won medals. (Each country was allowed to send four artists).
Chu Hoang Dieu Linh (women’s under 67kg) trounced a Sri Lanka competitor in the first game and a Filipino rival in the second game to enter the finals. Suffering from knee injury, Dieu Linh had to withdraw from the final game and won a silver medal but she took a ticket to the Olympic 2012.
The second ticket was granted to Le Huynh Chau (men’s under 58kg). Chau was exempted from the first round. He won in the next two games against a Pakistan artist and the champion of Southeast Asian Games 2011 from the Philippines to enter the final round. However, he failed in the final game and had to compete for the bronze medal against a Malaysian artist. In the decisive match, he was the winner and ranked third, with a ticket to the Olympics.
The Asian qualifier round in Thailand attracted 101 artists (45 female) from 31 Asian countries and 24 artists were granted the tickets to the Olympics 2012.
