The lessons are organized to connect one class with another class or with many classes. Foreign experts are invited to join the classes. The creator of such lessons is teacher Pham Thi Ha.
Giao Thien is located far from the central area, where people don’t have opportunities to meet foreign teachers. Students were shy and hesitant to communicate.
Ha, who undertook training a group of excellent students for a competition in English in the 2021-2022, understands the problem of local students. She tried to connect with foreign teachers and experts to help the students practice English.
Foreign teachers are enthusiastic and correct students’ mistakes and give valuable knowledge. After such lessons, students become more confident in communication. Their listening and speaking skills have improved considerably.
At last year’s contest of eloquence, two students of Giao Thien won first prize at district level and one of them won first prize at the provincial competition.
The achievement then prompted Ha to organize international lessons for many classes, not only for the group of excellent students.
The cross-border lessons have different topics, from clothes and food to local beautiful landscapes and festivals.
At a recent lesson that connected students and teachers from Vietnam, India, Taiwan and the US, Ha’s students talked about the landscapes of Vietnam.
“Students not only have the opportunity to practice speaking, but also take pride in their locality and country. They also can develop presentation, cooperation and problem settlement skills,” Ha said.
The teacher said that to organize such international lessons, she had to make every effort to look for teachers from different countries to connect with.
She learned from many experienced teachers about the models of classes via the Internet. She joined Facebook groups, including the community of Vietnamese creative teachers, Mystery Skype in the classroom, Mystery Skype, Our Global Classroom. She posted stories in the groups to look for people who wanted to cooperate with her.
“I can see that students are now very excited about English lessons,” Ha said, adding that this is the result of her efforts.
