Vietnam’s tennis prodigy Ly Hoang Nam has been named No. 11 seed in the boys’ singles event at the 2015 Roland Garros Junior French Championships with his current 14th ranking in the ITF Junior boys’ standings, according to the provisional list announced on May 7.
Nam received the honour due to some higher-rated players, including Russian Andrey Rublev – the No. 1-ranked junior player in the world – registering not to participate in this year’s tournament.
This is the first time in history a Vietnamese tennis player has been seeded in a Grand Slam tournament.
Hoang Nam plans to arrive in Italy on May 10 to train for the Roland Garros competition, which is played on clay. From May 18 to 24, Nam will participate in the 56° Trofeo Bonfiglio ITF Junior Grade A tournament, where he has been named as the No. 7 seed.
The 2015 Roland Garros Junior tournament is scheduled from May 31 to June 6 in Paris. The boys’ main draw sees competition among 64 tennis players, 46 of which are selected based on their ITF junior rankings while the others earned their place through qualifying tournaments or wild cards.
