According to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), the number of Vietnamese tourists to Japan in 2015 was 185,000, primarily to Tokyo or Osaka.

For this reason the Japanese Government is conducting promotions to attract Vietnamese tourists to rural areas in the country.

As one of its initial efforts, Japan has organized four tours that include charter flights from Vietnam to Fukushima from March 27 to April 11, carrying 164 passengers each.

Provincial staff and the province’s mascot welcome tourists arriving at Fukushima airport, presenting them with peach juice - a specialty of the province.

Trips are around five days, to destinations such as Fukushima, Tokyo, Yokohama, and Mount Fuji, and cost $1,750.

Other provinces in Japan are also actively promoting tourism in Vietnam.
