VN students obtain high praise at ACM/ICPC global contest

The Java #  team from the Vietnam National University’s College of Technology has garnered praise at the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) which was held in Morocco on May 25.

The team is comprised of three students – Nguyen Duc Nam, Nguyen Phan Quang Minh and Do Xuan Viet – who solved 6 out of 13 exam papers, helping Vietnam rank 20th among 128 participating countries.

This is the highest prize that Vietnam has won, and contributes to lifting Vietnam’s IT training reputation on an internationally respected level.

Ho Dac Phuong, head of the Vietnam delegation, said domestic and foreign IT contests have helped the Java #  team gain significant experience.

Since 2006, Vietnam has always been ranked among the first 100 universities to attend the ACM/ICPC global contest.

This year’s event attracted contestants from 4,000 universities globally. After regional contests, the 128 strongest teams competed at the final round in Morocco on May 25.

The ACM/ICPC was first held in the US in 1977 under the sponsorship of the US Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and expanded to global IT students in 1989.
