VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese workers in the Republic of Korea (RoK) are quite calm before the information of a possible war between North Korea and South Korea. However, the Embassy of Vietnam in the RoK is ready to take them home in emergency case.

The information of a possible war in Korea has made Vietnamese workers who are about to go to RoK worried. However, leaders of the Center for Overseas Labor Management have confirmed that it will not affect the labor exporting plan to this country.

Last week, there were several flights bringing Vietnamese workers from RoK back to Vietnam after their contracts expired and to take Vietnamese workers to RoK. In April, there will be two flights bringing several tens of Vietnamese workers to RoK.

According to the Center for Overseas Labor Management, at this moment, Vietnamese workers in RoK are still working normally. Most of the foreign workers, including Vietnamese, have been informed of the tensions between North Korea - South Korea for a long time.

The Vietnamese labor management board in RoK has confirmed that, in the case of emergency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs will jointly take workers back home.

RoK is the 3rd largest labor export market of Vietnam. Vietnam currently has about 75,000 workers in RoK. The average income of Vietnamese employees in RoK is from $1,000 to $2,000 per month.

In the past two years, the percentage of Vietnamese workers who illegally stay in RoK after their contracts expired increased so in August 2012, RoK temporarily halted receiving Vietnamese workers.
