They have joined 17 winners from nine other regional countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand over the past two years.
Originally born in 1965 in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, Binh Phuong was honoured for the novel “Một ví dụ xoàng” (A mediocre example). The work also won the Literature Awards 2021 in the Poetry-Prose category.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Mot, born in 1964 in the central province of Quang Nam, was honoured thanks to his work “Từ giờ thứ sáu đến giờ thứ chín” (From 6th hour to 9th hour). His work also won the Literary Award 2023 by the Vietnamese Writers Association.
The SEA Write Award was established in 1979 to recognise and honour literary excellence in the ASEAN region.
Based in Bangkok, the awards have been presented annually since 1979 to leading poets and writers in all 10 ASEAN countries which select their own winners.
