VietNamNet Bridge – Three Vietnamese athletes won final berths in the sanda (combat) events at the World Wushu Championship in Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday.

Vu Minh Duc will fight for a gold medal against Arnel Mandal of the Philippines in the men’s 52kg. Duc defeated Benghenem Abdelkarim of Algeria 2-0, in the semi-finals.

Hoang Thi Luan will seek her title in the women’s 52kg against Iranian Alaheh Mansoryansamiroumi. Luan beat Brazilian Edinea Prado Camargo 2-0 in the semis. Nguyen Thi Trang won 2-0 against Ilona Olkhovyk of Ukraine in the last four rounds of the women’s 60kg category. She will now face Cai Yingying of China.

Earlier, their teammate, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, took home a bronze medal in the women’s 56kg event, after losing to China’s Lin Huimin in the semi-finals.

In the taolu (performance) event, Duong Thuy Vi ranked ninth in the women’s jianshu (performance with sword) with 9.40 points, while Tran Xuan Hiep ranked No 11 in the men’s gunshu (performance with staff) with 9.54 points. Nguyen Thuc Anh placed fourth in the women’s nandao (southern broadsword) with 9.42 points, while Hoang Thi Phuong Giang ranked No. 6 in the women’s daoshu (broadsword) with 9.35 points.

After six days of competitions, Viet Nam now have one gold, two silvers and two bronzes.

The tournament will end on Tuesday.
