Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Bac Son said that VietNamNet is one of the first online newspapers in Vietnam, which was established along with the import of the Internet into Vietnam in 1997. The development and success of VietNamNet has shown its agility in catching up with the trend of development of the society.

VietNamNet has worked hard to build a solid brand in the hearts of the readers at home and abroad. It has gained social recognition as the online newspaper of the majority of readers and the Information and Communications Ministry, a "bridge" to bring information in the country to the Vietnamese community living and studying abroad and also an effective foreign media channel.

"Therefore, VietNamNet must nurture, preserve and develop its brand," Minister Son said.

He said that one of the strong points of VietNamNet is its abundant and diverse information, which is quickly updated on all areas of life, and in-depth stories about the hottest issues in Vietnam.

In the current difficult situation, more than ever VietNamNet should take initiative in widely spreading the government’s policies and actions.

"Besides this, the newspaper should reflect carefully, objectively, with the constructive spirit on hot issues of social-economics, protection of sovereignty, etc. in order to build trust and co- agreement, the positive atmosphere of the society," Mr. Son added.

On the occasion of the newspaper’s 15th anniversary, on behalf of the Party and the State, Minister Nguyen Bac Son presented to VietNamNet the third-class Labor Medal, awarded by the President.

VietNamNet’s Chief Editor Bui Sy Hoa confirmed that VietNamNet would continue to promote strength, unity, wisdom, innovation, raise leadership capacity, the political stuff, use all resources to successfully implement its missions in the future.
