VietNamNet Bridge – The men’s national football team of Vietnam did not play a single international game in April and lost in all for recent matches, but it still ranked 1st in the region in FIFA’s May rankings.

In the May rankings, Vietnam maintains its 132nd position with 234 points, one more spot than Turkmenistan, which defeated Vietnam in HCM City late last year.

Of the countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand ranked 142nd and its point is 26 less than Vietnam’s. The Philippines ranked 144th, followed by Myanmar 158th, Malaysia 161st and the 2012 AFF Cup champion Singapore 165th, 101 points less than Vietnam.

According to the analysis of FIFA, the reason why Vietnam still gains a high position in the region is thanks to its good performance during the period from 5/2011 to 5/2012. Vietnam obtained 136 points during this time while the team earned only 61 points in the last 12 months.

According to FIFA regulations, the achievements in the last 12 months is accounted of 100%, 12 months ago 50% and followed by 30% and 20%.

June FIFA rankings will be announced on June 6.
