HCM City’s People's Committee has asked for the government’s approval for the construction of the square under the BT (build - transfer) form.
The project has a total planned area of nearly 30 hectares, of which the central square will be 20 hectares and the remaining area will be devoted to the riverside park.
The square and the park are designed to serve 430,000 people at the same time. The total investment proposed by the French consulting firm Defrain Souquet Deso Associates is VND1.97 trillion.
This will be the central place for holding exchanges, cultural and political events, as well as a public space for everyday activities serving local residents and visitors. This is also the home to typical works of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
In late May, the Prime Minister allowed the city to add the square and riverside park project to the BT contract to build four main roads in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
The construction of the four main roads began in mid-February with a total capital of more than VND12 trillion. The investors have committed to completing this project within 36 months from the commencement date.
