Nha Trang is a coastal city and the center of politics, economy, culture, science and technology and tourism of Khanh Hoa province. In 2009, the city was recognized by the Government as a 1st-grade city.
Nha Trang is known as the pearl of the East Sea, or the blue gem, for its natural values and climate. The natural area of this seaside city is 251 km² ; it has a population of about 500,000.
The topography of Nha Trang is complex, with the height stretching from 0 to 900 m above sea level, divided into three terrain areas.
Nha Trang has a tropical climate, influenced by the ocean climate, so the weather is relatively mild. The average temperature is 26.3⁰C.
According to many researchers, the name "Nha Trang" was formed from geographic names in Cham language of Ya Trang or Ea Trang, which means “Lau River” or the Cai River running through Nha Trang.
