VNR500 is a listing of Viet Nam's largest businesses, modeled after similar listings created by Fortune magazine.
Conducted by on-line newswire services VietNamNet and Viet Nam Report JSC, the VNR500 is determined by several factors: revenue, industry, profit, growth rates, labour and owner equity and total assets.

Apart from publishing the largest 500 businesses in Viet Nam, Vietnam Report also announced the company's 500 biggest private enterprises.

To be included in the first list, state-owned, foreign-invested and privately-owned companies must have yearly revenue starting at VND1.4 trillion (US$66 million). To go on the second list, private companies must have revenue upwards of VND660 billion ($31.4 million).

Although the private sector expanded this year, the list continues to be dominated by the State-owned economic sector, including economic groups and general corporations.

State-run groups and corporations took leading positions, with three state economic groups listed in the top 10 Vietnamese companies. But this year, the report saw the sudden ascent of Samsung Electronics Vietnam into the list of the five biggest corporations and the addition of FPT and ACB bank to the list of the top 500 privately-run companies.

Notably, DOJI made it into the top 5 for the third consecutive year. In 2010, DOJI posted an impressive revenue of $1 billion.

Last year, it earned $1.4 billion and by late last month, the group's revenue already reached $1.4 billion.
