According to the delegation of the Vietnam Record Book in India, the Asian Record Organization officially recognized Vietnam’s two new Asian records at 9 am on March 2.

Earlier on February 27, the Vietnamese delegation attended the Asian record festival and the workshop on record initiatives that make up the values of Asia in India. During this trip, the Vietnamese delegation made a presentation on the two above statues to seek recognition as the Asian record for them.

The statue of Maitreya Buddha is 33.6 meters high from the base to the top. The pedestal area is 27x27 m. The total weight of the statue is nearly 1,700 tons of reinforced concrete. The statue is placed on the Thien Cam Mountain, which is 710 meters above the sea level. The statue features the special smile and belly of Maitreya Buddha.

This statue was made from February 2004 to December 2005 by 60 artisans. On 02.01.2006, the Maitreya Buddha statue was recognized as the Vietnamese record.

The statue featuring the Buddha entered Nirvana at The Linh Son Truong Tho temple on Ta Cu Mountain is crafted in the lying position, with the back against the cliff. It is 49 m long, symbolizing the 49 years since the Buddha attained enlightenment until he entered Nirvana.

The statue is made of reinforced concrete, designed by architect Truong Dinh Y. It was made in three years, from 1963 to 1966. The statue was recognized as the Vietnam record on 2.01.2006.

In late April, The Asia Record Organization’s representatives will make a field trip to Nui Cam (Tinh Bien district, An Giang) and Ta Cu (Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan province) to examine the two statues and present the Asian record certificates.
