VietNamNet Bridge - Military-run telecom group, Viettel, has been ranked 19 th out of 784 biggest telecom service providers in the world regarding the number of subscribers by Wireless Intelligence.

 

Viettel advanced five places from the second quarter of 2010.

 

It also won the second rank among 58 providers in ASEAN region, following the Indonesian Telkomsel (Telekomunikasi Selular).

 

The group has become the biggest mobile network in Vietnam after 10 year operation with over 42,200 2G and 3G base transmission stations.

 

Last year, its total turnover reached over VND91 trillion with the profit of VND15.5 trillion.

The telecom giant has recently won a contract to become the fourth mobile network operator in Peru.

 

Viettel plans to invest about US$400 million in developing its network in Peru over ten years.

 

The new contract has made Peru the fifth foreign market which Viettel has invested in, after Cambodia, Laos, Haiti and Mozambique.
