VietNamNet Bridge – Hundreds of young men fight over for “phet” (bamboo balls) in mud at the Hien Quan village festival in the northern province of Phu Tho on February 4.
The festival is organized annually on the 13th day of the first lunar month in Hien Quan
commune, Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province.
Six balls are placed on the altar before they were buried. Phet are made from bamboo foots, painted in red to symbolize the sun.
The phet scrambling festival is held in the village field.
Young men struggle for the balls in mud.
They try to get the balls because they believe that anyone who takes the
ball home will have a very lucky year.
