On July 3 morning, Vinh International Airport runway unexpectedly developed cracks due to the scorching summer heat, airport authorities said.

They immediately asked airlines to halt all flight arrivals and departures at the airport and decided to tackle the problem. Around 40 flights to/from Vinh International Airport were rescheduled on July 3.

Vietnam Airlines announced the cancellation of flights between Ho Chi Minh City/ Hanoi and Vinh City.

The national flag carrier also arranged passengers on route to Melbourne of Australia to travel by road from Vinh City to Thanh Hoa City, ensuring timely flight to Ho Chi Minh City before traveling to Melbourne, Australia.

The cracks that have developed on its runway are scheduled to be fixed in one day. All flights are expected to resume their normal operations from July 5.
