It is the fourth gold medal for the Vietnam team at the championships, after Thach Kim Tuan took a hat trick a day earlier.

Vinh finished on top in the men’s 62kg snatch event with a lift of 136kg.

He was followed by Han Myeongmok of South Korea (135kg) and Ergashev Adkhamjon from Uzbekistan (135kg).

However, Vinh failed in all three attempts in the clean and jerk event, which was won by Francisco Antonio Mosquera Valencia of Colombia with a result of 170kg.

Jose Lino Montes Gongora and Antonio Vazquez Mendez came second and third, respectively.

Due to his failure in the second event, Vinh was not ranked in the total category.

Lai Gia Thanh of Vietnam also competed in this event, but the 18-year-old world junior champion could not pull off a surprise. He was No 16 in snatch, No 13 in clean and jerk and No 14 overall.

In the women’s 48kg pool, two Vietnamese representatives Vuong Thi Huyen and Nguyen Thi Thuy lost to strong rivals.
